The Graph is a decentralized platform for the decentralized indexing and querying of blockchain data, for example querying the price data of a currency, the liquidity in certain systems or the transmission of ownership changes to the blockchain. A blockchain consists of an association of many individual small to large servers, all of which have stored the same data packages (blocks = blockchain). The information of the respective moment is stored in the respective data blocks. This could be transactions or ownership, for example. It must be possible to both query and add this data in order to enable the blockchain to be used. However, the most important point here is not the general feasibility, but on the one hand the simple and standardized handling, and on the other hand the data integrity, i.e. the security of the data.

The Graph has set itself the goal of becoming the global standard for precisely these data access protocols and offers so-called APIs for a wide variety of blockchains with the GraphQL interfaces. An API is an access point for developers to certain software systems that can be easily integrated into their own software. This allows a wide variety of companies to access blockchain data or write to the blockchain in a simple and standardized way. Over 3000 active APIs from The Graph are integrated into a wide range of companies, exchanges and projects. The Graph's largest APIs receive up to 2 million requests per day.

Thanks to the decentralized structure of The Graph via a decentralized ecosystem with its own token, The Graph can guarantee the integrity of the queried data. There are three different roles in the decentralized ecosystem: Firstly, there are the so-called indexers, who operate their own nodes with which they can securely process the data queries. A node refers to a blockchain server, i.e. a blockchain storage location that generates new data blocks. The indexer earns its money in particular from the fees for the queries. In addition to the indexer, there are also the curators and delegators who prioritize the API requests and support the indexer with resources (money in the form of the graph token). All request fees or other payment flows within the system are paid by the users with the graph token.

Overall, The Graph is one of the middle-aged currencies and ranks 54th worldwide with a market capitalization of USD 2.6 billion.
